Whoever lives according to rules and regulations, lives according to the will of God (St. Bernard). Ofuobi Prestigious Club of Calgary is an integral part of the community, and prides itself as a supporter of the community. In Igbo culture and tradition, to be human is to be part of the community, and as such, to participate in the activities of the community where we live. In line with the Igbo cultural worldview, for one for to isolate oneself from the community, is to excommunicate his/her self from the foundation that gives one support and identity.
The members of this social club are responsible Nigerian-Canadian citizens who understand the importance of community. Concepts like integrity, authentic character, and respecting the rules that guides our community, are compulsorily important to membership of the club. As an integral part of the community, the club has contributed towards alleviating social issues by:
•DONATING TO CALGARY FOOD BANK-
Calgary food bank is a charitable organization that is responsible for raising foods, and helping citizens in our community who are living in hunger. Ofuobi Prestigious Club of Calgary presented to the Calgary food bank a significant amount of money to facilitate their work in helping people in our community who are financially in need of basic necessities of life like food, and in their commitment to finding long term solution to hunger in our community.
•DONATING TO CALGARY SHELTER-
Evident in our community is the reality that some people have no place to call home. The Calgary shelter provides opportunity to individuals who are homeless to have beds that provide them with comfort, protect them from harsh Canadian weather, and also, provide them with security. Ofuobi Prestigious Social Club of Calgary also donated significant amount of money to Calgary shelter to continue to provide warmth, comfort and safety to people who are homeless.
Charity they said, begins at home. While the club has provided resources/supports to the family members of our social club in accordance with the constitution, the club is currently engaging in discussion on how to establish sustainable strategies to reach out to charitable organizations in Igbo communities in Nigerian like the Motherless Babies Home. These contributions are some of the commitments of the social club towards making positive impacts in the communities where we belong, and as well, leaving a legacy that will help to transform our community.
